Brian Burke is a partner with Epstein Cole. While his practice is almost exclusively devoted to the resolution of matrimonial law cases, he also takes cases representing Ontario's legal insurer in the defence of professional negligence claims brought against matrimonial lawyers.
Brian began his career practising corporate-commercial law at a top-tier Bay Street firm. From there he worked as a tax lawyer at Canada's largest tax law boutique firm. He then practised family law with a prominent Toronto lawyer before joining Epstein Cole in 2004.
He is a frequent speaker at conferences and has published legal articles and papers in a variety of journals, including the Canadian Family Law Quarterly.
Brian was called to the Bar in 2000 and he holds a B.A. from Trinity College at the University of Toronto and an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School. While in law school, he won numerous academic prizes and awards.
Brian enjoys using the skills and knowledge he developed as a former corporate-commercial lawyer and tax lawyer in his matrimonial cases, especially those cases with complex property issues involving corporations, trusts, estate freezes, and other structures; and cases with complex issues surrounding the determination of income for support purposes.
